Titan Panel
Now that you know how addons work in general, I’m going to write a little bit more about the addon that my reader asked about.
If you’ve forgotten, the question was,
In your screen shot there, you have some kind of status bar/timer/metric utility at the top of the screen. I’m curious as to what that is and where I can get it.
And here’s the screenshot.
The bar up top is called Titan Panel and you can find it here. Titan Panel is essentially a bundle of different modules that have all been configured to run in the same addon. There are several modules that come with the standard package and there are many more than can be added as well. It has a ton of different options and I’ll try to give you a breakdown here of how I use it.
The first item on the bar in my screenshot is a coordinates/location module, which lets you pinpoint exactly where things are on the map. It may seem simple but it is pretty much invaluable. Have you ever tried to give someone directions over guild chat?
Guildie: Hey, where is the flight point in Azshara?
Me: It’s at Valormok. On the east side kinda in the middle, north of the road… does that help?
Guildie: >.<
With map coordinates it’s much easier:
Guildie: Hey, where is the flight point in Azshara?
Me: 22,51
Guildie: Thank you, Adrenis. I love you and want to have your babies!
This is also very helpful for simplifying quests. If you ever go to Wowhead to find where the boars are that you need to kill, it’s much easier to be able to use the map coordinates, rather than trying to find actual directions.
The next thing on my bar is an XP module. It tells you how much XP you’ve gotten that session (per hour) and how long you have till you level at that rate. Even though I’m not a power leveler by any means, it’s still nice sometimes to know whether I should stay up and get those last couple of bars or go on and head to bed. Plus when you mouseover it, it tells you even more.

The next two items on my bar are the loot and durability modules. Handy for knowing at a glance what loot rules are running (in parties) and how your armor is holding up.
The last module on my bar is called Critline, which records your biggest hits and crits for each of your spells and abilities. It’s really a lot of fun to cast a Shadowbolt and see the “New Record” splash screen pop up. Critline comes in two different formats. The original stand-alone addon can be found here and the Titan Panel version is here. Both mods work the same way, but the TP version plugs into the bar as shown in my screenshot. Critline is also the only TP mod I have that doesn’t come with the standard TP package, so if you want that, make sure to download it as well.
As I mentioned earlier, there are many other addons that have been configured to run with TP. There doesn’t seem to be an up to date comprehensive list online, but if you head to any of your favorite WoW addon sites and search for Titan Panel, you’ll find a number of them.

My only complaint about these add-ons (and other add-ons from the sites you mentioned) is the lack of documentation. It’s customary in the modding community to include a readme with installation instructions in the downloaded archive. The instructions on the website are pitifully under-documented and the add-ons/mods/whatever you download rarely come with a readme or similar text file (And those that do list the history rather then instructions). This is really NOT kind to a newbie to the game. I puzzled my way through installing the Titan panel (5 attempts it took me, and only because I have experiance modding Morrowind & Oblivion (Elder Scrolls 3 and 4 respectively) among other games did I recognize the way the file structures worked) and it’s working now. But really the documentation on these things are abysmal….

I’ve occasionally run into addons that have not worked correctly or have been poorly documented, but I’ve never had the amount of trouble it sounds like you had. Did you actually have to edit the file itself to get it to work? I’m not sure what is to blame there. Titan Panel has usually been pretty headache-free for me.
