I’m Thankful for Rare Spawns
Ravasaur Matriarch
Shortly after I retreated… ran away from… fled… encountered King Mosh, I ran into the Ravasaur Matriarch. She’s got a nice green coloring on her and looks a bit different from the other ravasaurs in the area.
And the loot?
The text got cut off a bit, but it was the Swashbuckler’s Cape. Can’t remember the specific enchantment.
Gretheer
Gretheer is a big ole spider in the deserts of Silithus. (By the way, I need to do a plug for Silithus here. Not too many people will spend much time there now, since you can go to the Outlands at 58, but when you hit 55 make sure to head over there. Plenty of good quests and the zone is really a lot of fun.)
Also, I just have to say, as a complete and unabashed arachnophobe, how great is it that there aren’t spiders that size in the real world? Seriously, what would you do if you came across a spider 3 feet high and 6 feet across? I guess if I had Thooroon with me it’d be OK, but still…
Anyway, here’s what he dropped.
Thora Feathermoon, Marcus Bel, Hannah Bladeleaf and Aean Swiftriver
These three Alliance chicks (and one lucky Alliance dude*) wander up and down the Barrens together, doing not much of anything except looking for lowbie Horde players to mercilessly gank. Here they are about to get my druid, Matoskah.
Note how far away I am from them. They’ll aggro from clear across the zone.
*Seriously, how did Marcus Bel get that job?
Alliance Captain: Private Marcus Bel, I have your orders here. We’re going to send you into Backrock Mountain, into the very heart of possibly the most dangerous place in all of Azeroth. There you will face the forces of Ragnaros the Firelord, the Dark Iron Dwarves and Nefarian, leader of the Black Dragonflight. Success is not guaranteed. Indeed, survival itself is not guaranteed. Danger and great peril will be your constant companions.
Marcus Bel: I have pictures of you and the General’s wife from last year’s Christmas party.
Alliance Captain: Private Marcus Bel, I have your new orders here. We’re going to send you to ride around the Barrens with three beautiful and mysterious Night Elf women. You won’t actually have to do anything except ride aimlessly around with three beautiful and mysterious Night Elf women. Occasionally you may run across an Orc or Tauren that will be at least 10 levels below you. Feel free to mercilessly gank them. And then you can get back to your normal duties of riding around with three beautiful and mysterious Night Elf women.
Marcus Bel: Awesome!
Terrorspark
I was running through the Burning Steppes a while back, turning in a couple parts of my warlock epic mount quest, when I rode past this ginormous imp. I ran back to him to see what he was. He was Terrorspark! (There’s nothing too special about him. I just think with a name like Terrorspark, he deserves the exclamation point.)
And the loot?
Fulgorge
I ran into Fulgorge just south of the Mag’har Post in Hellfire Peninsula, making him my very first rare spawn in the Outlands! He’s a tunneller worm, similar to many that you face in HFP. The only warning you’ll see that he’s coming near you is the animation of rocks being thrown into the air as he tunnels around.
As you can see in the screenshot, he caught me right after a ferocious battle with numerous Helboars. I was severely weakened after fighting off a great number of them and so Fulgorge vanquished me after a terrible fight. That’s what I tell myself anyway.
As you can also see in the screenshot, I’ve landed 3 DOTs on him already and his health bar hasn’t budged at all. He’s one seriously tough mother. Wowhead says he’s got 79,000 health and usually requires a full group of 5 to bring him down. Since he travels underground and only surfaces when someone is near, he’d be a bit hard to find, but you could do it eventually if you tried hard enough.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
