Where Can I Go To Level? Alliance 30s
One of the most common questions asked in WoW is some variation of “I’m level xx… where else can I go to quest?” Having leveled numerous characters through Azeroth, I know it’s definitely frustrating to be stuck at level 28 or 29, so close to being able to go to the next tier of zones, and not knowing where you can go to keep questing.
To help you in your travels, I’m going to provide you with a comprehensive guide to each and every zone in Azeroth, so you can always know where else you can safely go.
The ACSZR (Adrenis’ Completely Subjective Zone Rating) is based on my leveling experience in each zone, how much I enjoy it, the availability of quests, and whether or not I recommend that you go there to level. When I rate the zone, I’m going to look at it from the perspective of the faction that I’m writing for, so the zone may have a different rating for Horde and Alliance. The ratings are:
1 – Stay Away From This Zone At All Costs
2 – Go There Only If You Must
3 – It’s OK But Not Great
4 – Solidly Good Zone
5 – Definitely Go Here, You’ll Love It!
———————————-
Alliance 30 to 40
Thousand Needles – Alliance get to Thousand Needles the same way that Horde do (south from the Barrens), it’s just a bit tougher as the Great Life is guarded by Horde PvP guards. If you’re going to try it (and want to avoid PvP), try to just run past them onto the lift.
Quest Hubs – Shimmering Flats Racetrack
Flight Points – There are no Alliance FPs in Thousand Needles. The closest two are Gadgetzan, in Tanaris, and Thalanaar, right on the border with Feralas.
Quest Levels – 25 to 35
ACSZR – 2. A definite “Come Here Only If You Must” zone. There are better places to level.
———————————-
Alterac Mountains/Hillsbrad Foothills – Once again, these two are grouped as the most of the quests that take you into Alterac begin in Hillsbrad. For Alliance, getting to Hillsbrad the first time is a bit of a trip. Head north from the Wetlands and then north and west through Arathi into Hillsbrad.
Quest Hubs – Southshore
Flight Points – Southshore
Quest Levels – 30 to 40
ACSZR – 3. Not quite as strong as the Horde 20 to 30 experience, but still a decent zone to level in.
———————————-
Arathi Highlands – Access to the Arathi Highlands is easiest from the Wetlands to the south.
Quest Hubs - Refuge Point
Flight Points – Refuge Point
Quest Levels – 30 to 40
ACSZR – 4. Plenty of good quests here and an enjoyable zone.
———————————-
Desolace – To get to Desolace, head south from Stonetalon Peak and go through the Charred Vale into Desolace. Make sure not to go too far and end up in Sun Rock Retreat.
Quest Hubs – Nijel’s Point
Flight Points – Nijel’s Point
Quest Levels – 30 to 40
ACSZR – 4. There are plenty of quests here and I’ve generally enjoyed leveling here. If the zone just weren’t so darn bleak it might get a 5.
———————————-
Stranglethorn Vale – Access to STV for Alliance is easiest from Duskwood to the north.
Quest Hubs – Rebel Camp, Nesingwary’s Hunter Camp and Booty Bay.
Flight Points – Rebel Camp and Booty Bay
Quest Levels – 30 to 45
ACSZR – 5. An excellent zone for both Horde and Alliance.
———————————-
Badlands – Access to the Badlands is easiest from Loch Modan to the north.
Quest Hubs – Three random camps – a dwarf, a gnome and a goblin.
Flight Points – There are no Alliance FPs in the Badlands. The closest one is Thelsamar in Loch Modan.
Quest Levels – 35 to 45.
ACSZR – 2. Not a great Alliance leveling zone. As on my Horde characters, I used to only go there if I needed a bit more help to hit 40.
———————————-
Swamp of Sorrows – The easiest way to get to SoS is from Duskwood/Deadwind Pass to the west. There are lots of mean beasties in the Pass, but just stay on the road heading east and you’ll be fine.
Quest Hubs – One lonely dude
Flight Points – Haha… the closest Alliance FPs are Darkshire in Duskwood and Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands.
Quest Levels – 35 to 45
ACSZR – 1.5 Not a good questing zone.
———————————-
Dustwallow Marsh – For Alliance, it’s easiest to get to Dustwallow via the boat from Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands.
Quest Hubs – Theramore Isle and Mudsprocket
Flight Points – Theramore Isle and Mudsprocket
Quest Levels – 35 to 45
ACSZR – Rating Pending. As I mentioned in the Horde 30 to 40 Guide, I haven’t had a chance to quest in Dustwallow since the addition of Mudsprocket in Patch 2.3. Accordingly, I’m not giving this zone a rating until I’ve gotten a chance to do that. Prior to Patch 2.3, this zone probably would have gotten a 3.

I’ll be looking forward to your Alliance 50-60 post. I seem to have been stuck in the late 40′s/early 50′s forever. Partly my own fault (I keep deciding to go run guild members through low level instances) but partly just confusion as to where I should be. (I lost the thread a bit after I quit for a few months)
The last two levels of each tier (38 to 40, 48 to 50, etc.) have always been the hardest to get done. The last patch (2.3) lowered the amount of XP needed to level, so things are definitely easier than they used to be, but it can still be difficult to get over that last hump.
Off the top of my head, the Hinterlands and Searing Gorge are good places to hit 50, and the Un’Goro Crater is a good place to get started in your 50s. There’s enough there to keep you busy till I get to the Ally 50s post =)
I was interested to see what you’d say here, as my Alliance Pally is sitting in her lower 30s… unfortunately I do have to disagree about Stranglethorn Vale. I tried my hand there with some of the early quests and had the single WORST leveling experience I have had the entire game!! I will be looking into some of the others tho, but I can’t recommend against STV any more strongly…

Were you trying to do the quests from the rebel camp, Polecat? Some of those (where you go to Kurzen’s camp) can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you’re doing them solo. Try grabbing some quests from the hunter’s camp and Booty Bay and work on them for a bit, and you might find that you’re starting to like STV.
You are correct, I was working the rebel camp sending me into Kurzen’s camp. Those guys are complete…. er, yeah, you get the idea. Especially as a Pally there. While one of my seals/judgements prevents runners, they spawned close enough together that I’d get ganged up on… and those healers… ugh.
Interesting to note, I got there from Thousand Needles, specifically the race track. After you do a few collection missions there (Which got me a level, maybe two, I don’t remember. I really had fun there ^_^) they quickly send you to Booty bay and STV. Unfortunately the missions started VERY quickly flagging red, thus how I ended up in the rebel camp, looking for some local quests to help bump me up before tackling those others…

PS – Glad you’re liking those movies I sent. I haven’t been searching as much lately, but I need to start hunting for more. ^_^
For Alliance the quests are obvius! Starting zone, than darkshore/ loch modan/ westfall/ azuremist isle than wetlands/ashenvale/ than southshore/hilsbrad (these zones are kinda screwy) /STV (Very screwy) than go to Theramor (Dutwallow Marsh)/Felwood/searing gorge than burning steppes/ blased lands than to Outland! Helfire Peninsuaa= great zone than ziggrmarsh andother Great zone than terrokar forest, a good zone also. After that if additional exp is needed, depending on level go to nagrand or shadowmoon valley. Once you hit 68 go to Borean Tundra(An exp extravaganza if done in the right order) than dragonblight(its decent but that rescue survivors quest ugghhhh) after that spend some time in zul furak, which gives great exp Remember to do the Ring of blood (if you can get a group together) (gives like 4 bars after ZF (Zul furak) go to Icecrown and unlock the Argent Stand, and the Ebon Hold. You should be around 80 by then (you can go to vajhir at 78 but I peronally think it’s a terrable zone.) If you need a lil more exp head to arie peaks or do some icecrown dailies. At 80 Head to Hyjal for some fun and practically free gold. After that spend some time in deepholm another great questing zone. Than go to twighlight highlands untill you hit 85. Some Notes *Flying mount will be the greatest assit to you questing. . . . period. Heirlooms will make questing mush easier as well, but they arn’t cheap. Another Note, if your having trouble getting to the required level to get the next zones quests, try some bgs or a couple dungeuns. Generally i advise against dungeuning at low levels, but the ones with built in quests give great exp and can level you faster than questing can. later- -
