Warlock Seduce Macro

One of the most important things that Warlocks bring to a group is their great CC ability - Seduction. In Heroics, and pretty much any dungeon with multiple mob pulls, you’ll definitely want some sort of crowd control to make things easier on your tank and healer. If your group doesn’t need your Imp out, or if you’re the only CC available, then you’ll probably be asked to pull out your Succubus and Seduce a mob or two.

My old method of Seduction - Seduce my target on the pull, switch over to the FF target, fire off a couple of Shadowbolts, switch back over to the Seduce target and re-Seduce - was ineffective at best. At worst, the Seduce target broke early, pwned my Succubus, and then headed straight for our healer. Not good times >.<

Focus

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve come across a much better method of Seduction that I wanted to share. Before we get to that though, I need to explain the concept of Focus. Focus is a method of storing a target, much like putting a value into the memory of a calculator. Your Focus target can be set with a simple

/focus

command, and it can be cleared with

/clearfocus

Once you’ve set your Focus, you can target whatever other mob (or player) you need, and then whenever you want, you can retarget your Focus with

/target focus

So, for instance, a healer could Focus the main tank, then target a mob, do a little DPS, and then quickly switch back to the MT whenever heals are needed. Pretty cool, huh?

And what’s more, Focus can be combined with macros to extend its utility even further.

Seduce Macro

Here’s the Seduce macro that I got from one of my guildies.

#show Seduction
/clearfocus [modifier:alt]
/focus [target=focus,noexists]; [target=focus,dead]
/clearfocus [target=focus,help]
/petstay
/petfollow
/stopcasting
/cast [pet:succubus,target=focus,exists,harm] Seduction; Seduction

Copy that whole thing and then paste it into the Macro window. Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V work in WoW just fine. Also, I’m assuming that most people know how to make a new macro, but if you need help just let me know and I’ll write a quick tutorial on that.

Here’s how the macro works. When you click it, your current target is tagged as your Focus, and your Succubus will go Seduce him. If you click it again, your Succy will re-Seduce the same target (your Focus), regardless of who you now have targeted. So what this allows you to do is Seduce the CC mob, switch to the FF mob and DPS, and then re-Seduce the CC mob as needed, without ever having to switch targets! If you’ve ever done anything similar to my old Seduce method, you’ll quickly see how awesome this is. You might even jump up and down and /cheer like I did.

Additionally, if you need to clear your Focus mid-fight, just hold down Alt and click the macro again. Holding Alt as you click will clear your Focus, and then set your current mob as your new Focus.

Couple More Things

If you are going to being using this macro or the Focus function regularly, you’ll definitely want to grab the Focus Frame addon. It puts an additional target frame in your UI that allows you to see your Focus and your target at the same time. With Focus Frame, you don’t have to guess when Seduce is going to wear off. Just keep one eye on the on the Seduce icon on your Focus, and then click the macro again when it wears off.

Also, a couple notes on Seduction: The mob’s/player’s chance to resist it is determined by their Shadow resist. Throwing a quick Curse of Shadows on them will decrease the chance of it being resisted, and will help keep the spell active as long as possible. On top of that, you can hit the mob with one Searing Pain to build up a bit of aggro and then Seduce them. If the Seduce breaks too quickly, this will make the mob come beat on you instead of your Succubus. (I realize at first glance this may not seem like a good thing, but it is a good strategy - you can take a few more hits than your Succy, and she can be Seducing the mob while it’s pounding on you.) I don’t always use the CoS/SP strategy, but if my group is having a harder-than-average time in the dungeon, it’s a good way to help out a bit more.

  1. Hey bro thanks this will be my first ever macro so im hoping when i get home it works. LOL also just wondering would it be possible to make the succubus auto recast seduction until the mob is immune? or something like that. send me and e-mail or some thing cya.

  2. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to tell the succy to auto-seduce. But with the focus frame up, it’s not to hard to tell when your mob breaks seduce and needs to be re-done. You’ll see the seduce timer ticking down as a debuff on their frame, so just hit the macro again when it runs out or drops off.

    #showtooltip seduction
    /assist pet
    /petattack
    /cast Seduction
    /targetlasttarget

Use this macro instead.. 1 click solution to seduce/reseduce and maintain your target.

This macro doesn’t use focus, so you are free to use it when Fearing or Banishing, making it possible to CC 2 mobs while maintaining a 3′rd mob as your DPS Target

  4. @Know what u r doing: That looks like a good macro as well. The only question I have is whether the Succy keeps her target after the Seduce ends. I’ll try and use that in my next run and see how it works.

  5. Nice web site here man, thanks. Can’t wait for the new enlargement, Cataclysm. Knowing Blizzard though I would not be surprised if it came out in 2011!
