Gear, Talent Specs, and Not Being A Jerk
Here is a simple question for you. I suspect it does not have such a simple answer.
If you are planning on switching talent specs, at what point is it acceptable to roll on gear for your new spec?
Here’s why I’m pondering this question. This weekend I played my Druid a good bit - got him to 55 - and at one point I joined a Sunken Temple group to finish my level 50 class quest. The only group I could find needed a healer and so I told them that I’m Feral, but I’d be happy to give it a shot. So, long story short, I joined the group, and we cleared all of ST with no wipes at all. There were a couple of hairy moments - FYI, daydreaming is bad for healers - but it went surprisingly well overall.
The upshot of my jaunt into ST was that I found I really enjoyed healing, and I’m considering respec’ing Resto at 70. Now, 70 is still a good ways off, and I’m not totally sure that I’m going to do it, but I’ve got a high-level Tank and DPS (McGraken and Adrenis, respectively) and I’ve never really played a healer before. So I think that I might enjoy doing it just for the experience. Plus I would never have any trouble finding a group
So that brings me to my question. If I continue to level as Feral (which I will definitely do), and I decide to respec at 70, at what point can I start rolling on Healing gear in groups? Obviously my goal is to be as effective a Healer as quickly as I can at 70, and so I would need a good set of Healing gear. The problem is that if I’m the Tank of the group, I don’t really have any business rolling on Healing gear (at least not ahead of the Healer). The “I’m going to respec” excuse for ninja-ing stuff is one of the oldest and most tiresome lines out there.
So is my best option to just keep all of the quest rewards and Greens that drop on my way to 70 that are suitable for a Healing set? Maybe I can find another Druid that’s leveling Resto and planning on respec’ing Feral at 70. We could just start switching drops around 65 ![]()
