Bye-Bye, Fury…

Well, I guess it had to happen at some point.

Being able to spec Fury as a Warrior in a raiding guild is a lot like being a highly talented and intelligent college student who never ever studies and manages to coast by on his innate gifts. Sure, it’s a lot of fun, and you love every minute of it, and you probably wish that nothing would ever change, but in the back of your mind you know that at some point someone is going to ask a little more of you and things will have to change. It might be graduation, it might be marriage or it might even be having a child - but regardless of when, at some point you’re going to realize that you’re not that college kid anymore and you’re going to have to man up and take some more responsibility.

For McGraken, that point came last night. I was on the Sunwell Isle, getting some dailies done, and my guild leader /w me and said, “Hey, do you have a tank set?”

I responded, “Yeah, I’ve got a full set. It’s not great but it’s not terrible either.”

“We’re gonna go spend an hour in Kara. Wanna come and off-tank some trash?”

“Sure!” I said.

So we go to Kara and happily down some bosses. I off-tanked like a charm, considering that I’ve only got 19 points in Prot, and things went pretty well. When we were done, he /w me again, “So how’s your tank set?” I thought, “That’s a bit odd. I just spent the last hour with him and he could have inspected me at any point. I wonder where he’s going with this?” So I replied back to him with my tank set stats. And then it happened.

“We’re trying to start up a 2nd Kara team to run each week. Would you like to be the Main Tank for it?

Well, nuts. There’s not really much you can say to that. “No, I refuse to help my guild out” isn’t really an option. And I find that I’m actually looking forward to it a bit. Raiding as DPS is, quite frankly, a cake-walk compared to raiding as a Healer or Tank, and I am a bit excited about having some new responsibilities. Nonetheless, I shall remember my brief time as a raiding Fury Warrior with fondness.

So now begins the gearing-up-for-being-a-MT process. Thanks to Blizzard, it actually shouldn’t take too terribly long. Nearly all of the gear that I need to be ready to tank Kara is available through quests, so I won’t have to farm many (if any) instances waiting on a certain item to drop. I’ll try and post what I’m going for in the next few days in case there are any other tanks out there starting to get geared for Kara as well.
