@Polecat: Boars are definitely a lot of fun. I had one I called "Tuskani" on my Orc Hunter for a while. As far as Boar vs. Ravager, I'd go with the one that you enjoy more. Ravagers are great for raiding and dungeon-ing at 70, but Boars and Ravagers are probably equal for leveling. They both can learn Gore, Ravagers have Dash, Boars have Charge. If your Ravager is lacking in personality, I'd switch back to Hamhock.

I'll be honest, I'm new at playing a hunter. In my early attempts and experiments, the hunter class never clicked with me. But as my Paladin got more and more frustrating to play, I voiced the desire to really be effective soloing to my roomate. My roomie, a long-time hunter player, suggested I, once more, try a hunter. Yeah sure. So another orc hunter was born.

This time I had better luck with it tho. Set-up as purely a collector, I haven't worried much witth he secondary skills other then to make some handy cash. Early on orcs can't get to Tb easily, so I stuck with bows, and trained up with Crossbows as soon as I was able. But now that I'm getting pets and actually able to play like a hunter is supposed to, I'm starting to understand what all the fuss is about. For me, I've stuck with bows at this point because swapping my entire ammo supply to bullets seems a bit silly, especially when bows and crossbows both use arrows. Roleplay wise I just envision the girl as a little unsophisticated.... thus not really "understanding" guns well enough to use (Despite having the training for them).

On a side note, a quick thought/comment/question about pets. I started with my first pet, of all things, a crab. Mostly to learn claw 2 for the later cat I planned to get. But previous hunter attempts with cats left me a little flat (even tho I suffered through getting a Lynx for my Dreanai hunter at 10th). The crab was no better. On my roomate's suggestion, I tried a boar.... I was shocked how much personality they bring to the table. I just recently upgraded from Hamhock (my boar) to a ravager (I waited until 17 and recruited a friend so I could grab one of the green ones). But oddly, the guy seems actually worse off then the boar, and seems to lack any personality beyond "KILL!!". Is it just me? I know Ravagers are supposed to be the "best" pet a hunter can get, but I'm not seeing it with my own playing. If anything, he's making me miss my boar (and admittedly his charge)....

I'm a carebear'ing, RP'ing hunter on a normal realm. I bond with my pets, give them names and roleplay in instances with them. If my pet dies, I unleash hell on whoever killed it and then I'll be on my merry way.. I think hunters are usually a mixture of me, a legolas-wannabe or a "I pwn lowbies"-ganking type. I hate guns, but I'll use them if needed. I want my characters to look pretty(my balance druid needs to have fitting gear, so does all my hunters and paladins) and I'm known to turn down an upgrade because it didnt match my char >_< I need a life! =P

I don't RP at all but I have to agree with the feeling of certain weapons. My hunter is a lvl 70 Tauren on Staghelm and he's always used bows. I seems more fitting for some reason. Plus, I'm not big fan of the sounds guns make or the Scarface style of holding them (same thing with the way Tauren hold crossbows).

I've always loved PvP. Something about killing another player has always felt more satisfying to me than killing a mob or turning a quest. I like being able to get PvP rewards more easily than raid items because when I step into the Hall of Legends, I KNOW I'm getting my sword. I usually don't venture out into azeroth or outland to track down lowbies that might be flagged (Staghelm is a PvE server), but if my guild is planning something fun, I'll go along.

Naming a pet is a huge ordeal to me. The name has to be just right, or I will go tame another one to get the name right. I also have no problem walking around with "Cat" for ages, while I think of the right name. =D

I absolutely agree. I hate world PvP for the same reason. I don't want to be griefed and I don't think its fun to grief others. Battlegrounds are fine, where people can choose to be a part of it.

Also, I do think the pets make a world of difference. But of course there are plenty of people who have a pet just because of the power it gives them and don't care about them at all and don't even give them a decent name! :-)

Yeah, I use a gun on my Orc Hunter too. It does feel right on him.

When I had an Elf hunter, I only used a bow. When I had an Orc hunter, the gun felt right.
Then you get the Science Fiction weapons, that look like Las Rifles or Missile Launchers, and I could not imagine using any of those, irrespective of their stats.

As for World PvP, I've done it a few times, but only for rep and tokens. Even at lv 70, if your gear is PvE, you have a massive disadvantage against PvP-equipped players. Outside of BGs and Arenas, PvP is 90% ganking.
