Category: General @ 1:22 pm

Twitter

I’m also now on Twitter and you can follow me at twitter.com/johnpickett. If you’ve never used Twitter before, it’s a lot like subscribing to a blog feed, except that the posts (called “tweets) are much shorter and usually more frequent. I tweet about all sorts of stuff, some of it WoW related, some not. Feel free to come join me.

Taking a WoW Break

I canceled my WoW account late last week. I’ve been planning for a long time to take at least one month off before WotLK was released, and it seemed like a good time to do that now. My interest in WoW has been fading lately, and since I plan on playing a good bit once the x-pac is out, I don’t want to go into WotLK already burned out, the way that I did with BC. I’ll still be here blogging though, and keeping up with all of the WoW news.

C’mon Blizzard…

Category: Guides and Gameplay @ 11:28 am

There are a lot of things that I’m looking forward to in WotLK. This is not one of them.

When the next patch [3.0] releases, you will no longer be able to gain weapon or defense skill while fighting the Servant of Allistarj, Servant of Grol, Servant of Razelikh, and Servant of Sevine.

Really, Blizzard? That was necessary? I’ve mentioned my dislike of the weapon skill mechanic before, and nothing has happened to change my opinion in the meantime. Seriously, what is the point of weapon skill? It has no real purpose in the game, and, as far as I can tell, it exists only to provide a headache for melee classes.

And that’s another thing that grinds my gears. If weapon skill is important, why is there no analogous skill for casters? If a mage has been Frost for 60 levels, and now wants to re-spec to Fire, shouldn’t he have to cast Fireball several hundred times before he really has the spell down?

It seems to me that weapon skill is kinda like the Electoral College. We only use the Electoral College for one election, once every four years for the President. No other election on any level (local, state or federal) in the United States uses this process. If having the Electoral College actually made sense, then we would have that process (or “mechanic”, if you will) in every election, right? If it’s a good idea, then let’s use it all the time! If it’s a bad idea, then… how bout we don’t use it at all?

(I knew that Poli-Sci degree would come in handy eventually! Yes!)

But, I digress. Here’s my point.

Blizzard, you have a stupid, useless, mind-numbingly boring mechanic in your game that serves no other purpose than to to impede players trying to enjoy more of said game. And now you take out the one method we had to make that stupid, useless, and mind-numbingly boring process as quick as possible.

You’re making your game less fun to play. Stop doing that.

Authenticators Back In Stock

Category: News @ 5:01 pm

Blizzard just announced that they have more Authenticators back in stock. If you meant to grab one the first time before they sold out, go to the Blizzard store and get one now.

If you need more info on them, check out the Authenticator FAQ.

EDIT: And 15 hours later, it’s already sold out again.

EDIT AGAIN: And 6 hours after that, they’re back in. Go crazy!
