All-Gnome Guild LFM
Every now and then I’ll see someone trying to recruit members for their one race guild – all gnomes, all tauren, all human, or whatever. I’ve never joined any of these because it seems like a silly limitation to put on a guild, but I’ve always been amused by the idea. So, just out of curiosity, let’s take a look and see what WoW race would have the best chance at actually being able to raid successfully without letting any other classes join them.
For the purposes of this comparison, I’m defining things thusly: Tanks are Warriors, Paladins, and Druids. Healers are Priests, Paladins, Druids, and Shaman. I’ve broken DPS down into two categories. Rogues, Mages, Hunters, and Warlocks are Primary DPS. Secondary DPS are any off-spec that is capable of DPS’ing – Fury Warriors, Ret Pallies, etc. – and also any DPS class/specs that are primarily support oriented- DPS Druids, Shaman, etc.
To be successful here, a race will obviously need to have at least one tanking class, at least one healing class, and, hopefully, several DPS classes. Primary DPS classes will be more beneficial to the guild than the Secondary, but a guild with no Secondary classes will be sorely lacking in utility. The ideal DPS situation would be several Primary DPS classes, and a few Secondary.
OK, let’s rank em!
Coming in Dead Last are…
The Gnomes!
-
Warrior, Mage, Warlock, Rogue
0 Healers, 1 Tank, 3 Primary / 0 Secondary DPS
No healers makes for many dead Gnomes. They might be able to DPS the bosses down before all of the tanks bit it, but it’s doubtful.
In Third Place we have…
Orcs
-
Rogue, Warrior, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman
1 Healer, 1 Tank, 3/2 DPS
Undead
-
Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock
1 Healer, 1 Tank, 3/2 DPS
Blood Elves
-
Priest, Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Paladin, Hunter
2 Healers, 1 Tank, 4/2 DPS
These three races would be viable as a raiding guild, but they would be severely lacking in utility and synergy. Each race has only one choice for tank (Warrior, Warrior and Paladin, respectively) and that would hinder their efforts somewhat. In addition, the Orcs and Undead have only one choice for Healer, and that is rarely sufficient for successful raiding. The Blood Elves have two choices here, but it’s not enough to overcome their other deficiencies.
Second Place goes to…
Trolls
-
Priest, Warrior, Mage, Shaman, Rogue, Hunter
2 Healers, 1 Tank, 3/3 DPS
Tauren
-
Warrior, Druid, Shaman, Hunter
2 Healers, 2 Tanks, 1/3 DPS
Dwarves
-
Warrior, Priest, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue
2 Healers, 2 Tanks, 2/3 DPS
Night Elves
-
Warrior, Priest, Rogue, Druid, Hunter
2 Healers, 2 Tanks, 2/3 DPS
These four races are much more likely to have success as a raiding guild, but are still somewhat lacking in key areas. Trolls would have excellent DPS, and decent healing, but only have one choice for tanking (even though it is, currently, the best choice, that would still hurt them in the long run). Tauren and Dwarves have good Healer choices, and good Tank selection, but are a bit lacking in the DPS department. The Night Elves would be in the same boat: good Tanks, decent, but not great, Healing selection, but a little low on DPS.
And the Winners are…
Humans
-
Warrior, Priest, Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Paladin
2 Healers, 2 Tanks, 3/3 DPS
Draenei
-
Warrior, Priest, Paladin, Hunter, Shaman, Mage
3 Healers, 2 Tanks, 2/4 DPS
The clear winners, Humans and Draenei have an excellent mix of Healing, Tanking and DPS. Both of these races might actually have a chance at being a successful raiding guild. It’d certainly be an interesting experiment. =D
If I were going to pick one of them as the overall winner, I think I’d trade some DPS for Healing and go with the Draenei. A Warrior/Pally tank combo, Priests, Pallies and Shaman for Healing, Mage/Hunter for Primary DPS, along with Fury Wars, Shadow Priests, Enhance/Elemental Shammies and Ret Pallies… yeah, that’s a pretty nice raid group there.
All in all, we can conclude that Gnomes suck.

This is why our “racial oriented” guild was called “Little League”, the only requirement for entry was you had to be less than 4 foot. So Gnomes and Dwarves… you can get yourself a well enough rounded party out of that.
Yeah, Gnomes and Dwarves together would work pretty well.
Some nice information here, thanks man. The release of Cataclysm is driving me crazy, at 1 time it was going to be released in Feburary 2010, now it is supposedly November 2010!
Ive just reached level 18 as a troll hunter, and I have accumulated more useful abilities than will fit on my action bar. So, I suppose I have to put some of them on a 2nd action bar, right? Is there a keystroke that will switch action bars, or is the only way to click on the little arrows?
Wow, since I was here a couple of. Well okay. I need this article something I am working on, fortunately for me it has a similar theme as this post. Thanks, great share.
